"Positive" games are those with a positive score, but fewer than 50 reviews. Those are the scores of all the 559 games I analyzed:ġ90 games do not reach the minimum of 10 reviews, and therefore don't get a score. Steam reviews aren't truly indicative of the quality of a game, but are a good instrument to gauge if a game is well-received.

Projects can't be ported between newest versions, so people usually choose an engine and stick with it for years. RPG Maker VX has been around for a while, and has the highest numbers of custom resources/plugins freely available to devs. Having said that, the RPG Maker Steam tag more or less contains:

There were also a couple of games I wasn't able to identify, because they looked too different from your average RPG Maker game. Guessing the exact version used to make each game involved a lot of squinting at trees, so I can't assure you my estimations are 100 per cent correct. Many RPG Maker versions have been released over the years, and even the older ones are still in use. That's why I took a deep dive in the Steam RPG Maker tag, gathering data about all 559 tagged games released to this day.īehold the results of my foolish research. RPG Maker games tend to look the same, so this means that only untalented developers use it, right? Mine is the endless battle in defence of RPG Maker, accused by many of being a bad engine only used by lazy developers. (I use my Ipod to listen to music while working :P).We all have our petty personal crusades to fight. But I never had an "Unexpected File Format" happen to me to any of my games (unless if you count the one I'm working on with Polraudio) since I only have XP or VX running and nothing else.

When you have RMXP, or RMVX open and editing your games (or just starting them) do you any other programs running, like Windows Media Plater, Itunes, Virus Scanner (any scanner), Internet, or any other program running other then RPG Maker? My brother had a few of his games have that error, and he had a few programs running while working, and like Polraudio said in the quote, the TeamViewer was running and we got the error messege as well. looks at confused faces- Let me try to put it in another way. Then i tried to open it up and got that error. Your were right in the middle of saving and my computer shutdown. Nisage we had this problem when you were on the Virtual OS. Hehe i hope this comes of great help to people, not to be pompous or anything but i think i deserve some respect haha

If you cant work out how to do this properly then just message me and ill help you Keep doing this for all of the maps in the 'data' folder, and you should end up with:Īnother new game with all of the maps copied
![rpg maker vx ace failed to load actor data rpg maker vx ace failed to load actor data](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/-XR42Ua4vhg/hqdefault.jpg)
after this go back to the 'data' folder of the first new game and delete 'MAP001', then copy another map from the 'data' folder of the original game and repeat the process If you copy a map (eg MAP003, Store-Room) from the 'data' folder and paste it into the new games 'data' folder, and then RENAME THE MAP 'MAP001' without the quotation marks, it will appear in the new game as the first default map, there fore you can copy the map straight from the game (rather than the 'data' folder) and into another new project. Well ive found a way to recover your maps and all of the eventing within themĪs you have probably tried, copying all of the files in the 'data' folder and pasting them into a new game, but, this doesnt work for it iss those files which are corrupt Haha, just after i had this problem for the 30th time, the old 'unexpected file format', the cancer that is killing rpg maker projects everywhere. WARNING: THIS TAKES A VERY LONG WHILE TO DO
